Review: Killing Floor

by Ryuujinx on Jun.03, 2009, under PC

Ah, survivor horror games. The genre most people love to hate. Since they never seem to get it right, and all. Killing floor, as you might have guessed by now, is a survival horror game. but that’s not all! It’s a co-op survival horror game. Yes, that’s right - not only do you get to shoot zombies in the face, you get to do it with friends! Yay!

So, this was a game I was iffy on to begin with, and I was hoping that I would be pleasently suprised. The premise is you’re dropped off at some location, there’s a bunch of undead things, you shoot them until that wave is dead. After the wave you go find the trader, and she sells you weapons that you buy with the money that you somehow aquired while shooting said zombies. There’s 7 waves ending in a boss fight, after which you get a screen that amounts to “Hooray, you did it!”. So to go back to my question of was I suprised? Kind of. (continue reading…)

Review: Call Of Duty: World at War (Wii)

by Argoti on Jan.04, 2009, under Wii

This review is not based on a full playthrough, as most of my reviews are, but if I do decide to keep playing I will post corrections. Call of Duty is going back to its roots as a World War II shooter, but that is not a good thing. (continue reading…)

Review: Sonic Unleashed (Wii)

by redmage_hunter on Jan.03, 2009, under Wii

Ever since his Jump to 3D platforming Sonic the Hedgehog hasn’t necessarily been at the top of his game. Even with recent success with both Sonic Chronicles and his cameo in Super Smash Bros Brawl, the ups are out-numbered by the downs like Shadow The Hedgehog,  Sonic ‘06 & Sonic and the Secret Rings. With Sonic’s credibility decreasing constantly, is Sonic Unleashed the Advil to the Hedgehog’s four year headache?   (continue reading…)

RANT: Zune 30gb Fiasco

by Argoti on Jan.01, 2009, under Uncategorized

I, like many Zune owners today, turned on my zune to listen to some podcasts (120 Minutes of Jick and Mr. Skullhead FTW) to discover, to my horror, that it was frozen. (continue reading…)

Review: Command and Conquer:Red Alert 3

by Ryuujinx on Dec.31, 2008, under PC, Playstation 3, Xbox 360

Red Alert 3, a game people have been craving almost as much as starcraft 2(Well, in my circle of friends at least). And it finally came to us.  The story begins with the soviets going back in time to alter time(seriously, has that kind of thing ever gone well?) and kill Einstein. Upon their return to present they find that not only do they still have to fight the allies, but the Japanese as well. That ends the opening scene and plops you into the main menu. News: Microsoft Pay-As-You-Go and it’s implication on gaming

by Ryuujinx on Dec.30, 2008, under PC

For information on what it is, here is the original place I found it:  source

A snippet out of that article, in case you don’t want to read it:

Charging for the various bundles may be by bundle and by duration. For example, the office bundle may be $1.00 [68 pence] per hour, the gaming bundle may be $1.25 per hour and the browsing bundle may be $0.80 per hour.

This has some dire implications for the gaming industry, especially for MMORPGs. Imagine, those hours you poured into Fallout 3, the time spent online with Left 4 Dead, was all billed. Those 1.25 hours would start adding up. Further, places that specialize in games such as a local shop we have called the D-pad woule be crushed by those kinds of fees. (continue reading…)

Review: Bleach:Dark Souls

by Argoti on Dec.23, 2008, under Portable

The sequel to Bleach: The Blade of Fate (TBoF), Dark Souls is set apart from the anime after the end of the Soul Society arc. Any fans of the anime or of the original DS fighter should read on, for there is indeed darkness in these souls, and they have negatively affected gameplay

Review: Portal: Still Alive

by Argoti on Dec.23, 2008, under Xbox 360

Review: Portal: Still Alive

One day soon, after replaying it, I will aspire to give you my impressions on the greatest game ever made. Until then I have to start a bit more recently.

Portal: Still Alive is an arcade title for the Xbox 360. It contains the entire regular game with the same quirky and hilarious dialog, and 16 new levels. If you never played Portal, the game with be worth the 1200 points easy. So the question is, are the extra maps worth it.

The answer is yes. The new maps are all intriguing to play through, and have new types of obstacles. You start out normally, though with more of the “unportalable” walls and floors than you might be used to. Then they throw in buttons to destroy the cube that is spawned, and then spawn a new cube. Later additions are electrified fields that kill you when they are charged up, though they have a distinct noise while they warm up that gives you plenty of time to react, and two types of force fields, blue “impassible” fields and red “kill” fields. You can portal through both without any problems.

The problem is that turrets can and will shoot through them. Turrets make a glorious return, as does a friend some might not have seen if they never played the advanced maps, the “Weighted Companion Sphere”.

Review: Mirror’s Edge

by Ryuujinx on Dec.23, 2008, under PC, Playstation 3, Xbox 360

Mirror’s Edge is a game that was expected by everyone, the demos and videos blew everyone away.  You play as a “runner” in a city who’s populace decided to be controlled by the government for protection and safety, the city is all a blinding white and almost painful to the eye in some parts.  The entire game is a first person,  as you free run.  Jump,  slide and run from building to building to get to your goal.  As a general rule, you want to run away from the enemies,  but towards the end you’re forced into fighting them.  The combat is simple,  and very straightforward.
